this is my favourite shoot to date. it's the very first time i was able to... fashion direct? i'm very reluctant to use that term. but it was the first time i executed an idea, cast the models, gave hair & makeup direction and all. looking back, i think i was a bit crazy taking this on all by myself (no assistant & ryan was on another shoot that day) but i'm so glad i did it.

i got the idea to do a trend story where a bevy of girls would be outfitted in looks depicting one trend per group and they'd also be styled the same in regards to hair & makeup; there were advertising campaigns for spring/summer 2011 already out for prada and bcbg in this same fashion. then i thought, wouldn't it be cool to also cast groups of as many different races as possible?


casting proved to be tricky. with toronto being such a multi-cultural city i thought it would be easy to book as many different ethnic backgrounds as possible. and why not older models too? how dope would that be to have a gaggle of beautiful silver foxes rocking the all white trend? but it didn't work out as planned since i would need to have at least two models per group available- in some cases not even one was available. so, that meant no south asian, no grey hair, no latin/south american and no native representation for this story.

nevertheless, i was pleased with the models that were available for this shoot; i was happy with the clothing i was able to pull (especially the louis vuitton number that was worn by carmen kass, holla!); i was grateful to be working with the talented sheri stroh (this was one of her first few shoots since her recovery from her triumphant fight with breast cancer) and i was glad to have the talented felix wong behind the lens (he has an excellent rapport with the models; they all love him).
