one of the reasons why i never liked pleather bags was because of the plastic and stiff feel. and not only could you tell it wasn't real leather by touch but you could also tell by it's appearance. this is not the case with nella bella. instead of polyvinyl chloride (also known as pvc), tarek uses eco friendly materials from treated cottons to colourful japanese paper. the bags don't have a yucky plastic finish, in fact, a lot of them look, feel and have the body of real leather. on top of that, all bags are lined with a contrast colour (very important for seeing the contents of your bag without the aid of a flashlight) and come with a dust bag for storage (very classy if i do say so myself).
tarek was kind enough to gift me with one of his designs after i showed great interest in the black chicago bag at the ukamaku media preview. what's not to love? it's huge, has multiple pockets and compartments, it's huge, has straps to carry over the shoulder or cross body and it's huge. i can carry my portfolio, notebook, agenda, basic styling kit (scissors, double side tape, tailor snips, safety pins, static guard, alcohol wipes, etc), wallet, makeup bag, water bottle, keys, mints, camera, scarf and sunglasses all without the bag ever looked stuffed. seriously. and i'm frequently complemented or asked where my bag is from, to which i proudly inform the ask-er that it is nella bella, a canadian brand.
even if you're not a fan of bags big enough to carry small children there are many styles, sizes and colours to choose from. men don't need to be left out either; just this spring tarek launched nb man and i assure you gentlemen that this handsome collection is just a warm up- wait until you see what's in store for fall (i've already seen it and it's awesome).
