:::FiLLER | stand strong editorial

the mens edition of FILLERmagazine is now live. because i was busy getting married back in october you'll only see one editorial styled by me.

let me begin to tell you the story about this editorial that almost never happened. this shoot was originally slated to be a video editorial but due to location issues it became a photo editorial. but, not only did our location drastically change but our models, which were originally 2 different gents, were no longer available. all i gotta say is thank You Jesus, Lord God Almighty that david chiang, elmer olsen's newest face was available; he was just a phone call away (or in this case text) and our new location became a playground not too far from the creative director's home.

the result? an awesome shoot.
good job team.

:::RED ASSASSiN | bts part 1

there are just too many behind the scenes shots that i want to share from the RED ASSASSiN video editorial that i styled for FILLERmagazine, so, i'm breaking it up into two parts.

we used one thousand balloons for this shoot, or at least we tried to. it was a mix of helium and air balloons and a few popped along the way. God bless the team that helped prep for the shoot.
at one point we were running out of space to store the balloons without it going into the set space. there were quite a few casualties; i think we ended up with 950 balloons when we were done.
that's just the balloons with no helium... it was very tempting to dive in the middle of them and hide out.
on the left, henry sampson (director of photography) and on the right, javier lovera (director/photographer) throwing up a dove; setting up the camera and walking through the shots while we're getting the model ready.

aaaah the wardrobe. i'm pleased to say that i used predominately canadian designers. clockwise: greta contastine neoprene dress & joeffer caoc mesh turtleneck; greta constantine atelier seatbelt jacket (SICK); top with detachable fur, nada; christian louboutin and chie mihara shoes.
a close up shot of the buckled christian loutboutin boots i pulled. "you are so beautiful, to me... (hey, notice a popped balloon in the background next to the mac?)
ms. laura kell of next models. she had pushed back her departure date so she could do this shoot with us. she was amazing. if you've seen the video i'm sure you'd agree. most models are used to doing one pose at a time but it's the movement in between each pose, each emotion and action that obviously sets her apart from the rest.
the hair and makeup duo that is grace lee (makeup) and aniya nandy (hair, plutino group).
the finished product. well done ladies, well done.
after i got laura dressed in her first look the creative director (ryan johnson) suggested that her lips be made black to add to the severity of her look. i think it was a good move.
by far this jacket was my favourite piece in the entire collection of clothing that i pulled. do i need to explain why?
the chie mihara boots worn with leather leggings by nada. love.
that's all i have for now but part 2 will be all the bts shots from when filming began. i'll be including some video too.

stay tuned.

:::MORE CHiBi GAGA | can't get enough

no seriously, i can't get enough. i know i already did a post about these cute anime styled sketches but that was before number 16 & 17 were released. seriously, if they were dolls i would be a collector. forget beenie babies, pokemon and all those other fad collectibles, chibi gaga would surpass them all.

as long as joão paulo tiago keeps posting new sketches on his blog, i'll keep sharing them on mine.

:::WONDER GiRLS | nobody

so, i was watching "so you think you can dance" last night and just like what they usually do when nearing the end of the competition the program will have musicians perform to help fill up the time slot (and to give the dancers a bit of a break i'm sure).

for this episode they had two musical performances but the one that really got my attention was south korea's wonder girls. performing their current song "nobody" i wasn't too sure about the whole lip sync thing (never was a fan) but they did get my attention.

they got my attention long enough for me to google and wiki them and in my findings (which of course wasn't a hard find) i came across the official video for their track "nobody". i have to say that i really dig the video. the story line had me chuckling (the male lead is funny), i liked the hair and wardrobe too, plus, who doesn't love a motown inspired video? i may not have fallen instantly in love with the wonder girls like i have with puffy amiyumi (like when i first saw their video for "boogie woogie no.5") but i will be keeping my eye on them as the set out to make their name known in north america.

:::ESPRiT 2010 | celebrity campaign

for the first time ever, esprit will be using celebrities in one of their upcoming ad campaigns. in spring 2010 you'll be seeing miss daisy lowe and julia restoin roitfeld; along with the ladies you'll see daisy's boyfriend will cameron, models leticia birkheuer, ash stymest, sam way, kim noorda and jon kortajarena. translation: this is going to be one good looking campaign.

because i'm a stylist first before i am a blogger, you know i have to list the creative team that helped produce the images. all i have for now are some of the behind the scene snaps but i'm sure the final product will be awesome when it's revealed.

:::CHiBi GAGA | she's so cute

it's happened to me many times and i'm sure it has happened to you as well: while surfing the world wide web in search for something specific, you stumble across things totally unrelated, sometimes good, sometimes bad. this would be one of my good stumble upons.

i came across the site of joão paulo tiago, a talented artist based out of brazil, who has a series of chubby anime styled drawings of lady gaga called "chibi gaga". so far he has a total of 15 illustrations and if they were dolls i would collect them all!

visit joão's deviant art site to enjoy more of his work and make sure to look at his blog site to see the original images of lady gaga that inspired each chibi gaga.

:::HOLT RENFREW CHRiSTMAS | window reveal

it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, especially now that holt renfrew has unveiled it's 2009 holiday windows. ever since covering the blogger windows back in june, where i also had the fortune of running in to john gerhardt, the creative director of holt renfrew, i have been paying extra attention to their windows as well as their in-store marketing.

i was there for the official window reveal celebration that took place on bloor street, and i do mean ON bloor street-they close bloor from bay to yonge for the annual event. it was hosted by caryn lerner, president and ceo of holt renfrew, and guest hosts rick campanelli & kim d'eon of entertainment tonight canada. the special performances for the night were canadian bluegrass the abrams brothers (who i have never heard of prior to this event but they were pretty good) and feist (who i most certainly have heard of and she was beyond good).

below is a series of pics and video from the seven windows. seven windows with seven words that were chosen to reflect the various moods of the season and put the holidays in to context. my absolute favourite of them all? sharing. scroll down below to see why!

JOY

the joy of music, the joy of dancing or the joy of really nice clothes from holts?
i think all of the above.

MAGiC
i love that the mice are up to mischief and that the "lady clauses" look like they have a large sac made of hand bags for gift giving.

WARMTH
lady penguins on snow shoes, gentlmenguins on skates and mini penguins all over the place!

LOVE

BEAUTY
this is my second favourite window of them all. i just love that the heads of the mannequins are swans and i love all the little ballerinas scattered throughout the window. swan lake anyone?

WONDER

i find it very interesting that none of the mannequins are facing the window. perhaps it's because "wonder" is the center of their attention? the center of their pondering and thoughts? interesting indeed.

SHARING
sharing is my favourite out of all the windows! do any of the caroling snowmen and snowomen look familiar to you? any of them? have a closer look because i see the likes of karl lagerfeld, isabella blow, anna piaggi, vivienne westwood, alber elbez, olivier theyskens... can you name some more?

take a look at the video below for a closer look too!

:::LiV BY AU LiT | holiday shopping party

last night i had the pleasure of attending a fashion social at liv by au lit, a super sweet, two-level lifestyle store that combines clothing, jewelry, furniture, linens and accessories to create a one-of-a-kind shopping experience. in one glance around their beautiful 10,000 square foot store i was immediately reminded of caban, except liv is a more girlie, better merchandised version with cute vignettes from section to section, seamlessly incorporating all their elements of style.

this saturday, november 28th, liv will be hosting their annual holiday party from 10am to 6pm. the ladies of liv want everything (and everybody) to be draped in “silver & gold” so the first 50 purchases over $100 will receive a stunning jewelry gift from edmoure ralph. make sure to keep an eye out for live holiday carolers, a jewelery trunk show, hot cocoa and treats! be there or be square!

:::DAUL KiM | r.i.p.

may 31 1989 - november 19, 2009
i'm really saddened and still in shock that daul is no longer here. i feel the same way as when i heard about hamish kippen's passing-to think of someone so young and talented that had so much potential to be successful in any avenue (and not just modeling or in hamish's case, not just photography).

though daul was one of my favourite faces i recently discovered her blog: http://iliketoforkmyself.blogspot.com (november 23 update: her blog is no longer available to read). some of the posts are sad and some are hilarious (especially her random portraits of self and photobooth antics). it's a wonderful outlet in getting to know daul, even in her passing.

to daul's family and friends, my prayers are with you.

rest in peace daul.
